The area facing the fjord is designated as a nature preserve and bird protection area.

Trash-recycle

There are 2 bins. One for food and residual waste, and one for recyclables.
Trash must be sorted into food waste and residual waste.
Only the provided official green bags may be used for food waste. If you are about to run out of green bags, tie a green bag on the food and residual waste bin (then the garbage man will put a new roll for the next emptying).
General/residual trash must be bagged (in any plastic bag, but not the green ones) before being placed into bins.
Please remember to tie off bags.

The lid of the bin MUST be able to be closed, otherwise it will not be emptied!

If you have recyclables, please use the recycling bin.
You can deposit glass at the recycling stations (see map).

WiFi

There is a 200/200 Mbit/s network available.

Network name: Syrenvej123Guest.

Access code: SyrenGuest.

TV

There is no cable TV.

There is a Chromecast available (HDMI 2) so you can stream your own content from your devices.

You can switch HDMI input using the button on the top right corner of the remote.

Music

There is a Bluetooth speaker available.

Connecting via Bluetooth (Pairing):

1. Select Bluetooth as the input. Pushing the SOURCE button toggles the input sources.

2. Push and hold the SOURCE button for 2 seconds. The Bluetooth indicator starts to blink.

3. Enable Bluetooth on your device. 

4. Select ACTON II from the Bluetooth list and accept pairing. The Bluetooth indicator on the speakers stops blinking and remains lit when the units are connected.

Fun fact: The name "Bluetooth" is an anglicized translation of the Danish King Harald Blåtand's surname.

Windows

1. To open the windows fully, make sure the latch is in the upright position before you open it.

To partially open and hold the windows:

2. Close the window and put the latch in the maximum downward position (important).

2-3. Turn the hook (arrow) on the latch down so it aligns with the latch.

4. Open and hatch the window.

Grill

There is a gas grill available located in the shed. Please clean the grill and grate thoroughly after use - the next renter will be very grate(no pun intended)ful. Please return the grill and gas bottle to the shed when you leave the house.

Be careful when you move the grill, please see the illustration.

If you run out of gas, you can get a refill at Min Købmand in Stauning. Save the receipt and give it to Novasol and they'll refund the cost.

Bioethanol fireplace

ONLY use bioethanol!

Never use fuel other than bioethanol intended for biofireplaces. Ethanol gel, fireplace fuel, hand-sanitizer, etc. are not suitable for use in bioethanol fireplaces. If you use fuel other than the recommended one, you can risk damaging the fireplace and exposing yourself to great fire danger.

Read the instructions before use.

Pull the handle to open (don't turn).

Avoid spilling bioethanol. You can remove the burner unit from the fireplace and use a funnel to fill it with.

Never overfill the burner.

Never pour bioethanol into a lit or hot burner!

Electric Vehicle

It is possible to charge an electric vehicle at the house. The chip provided with the house key will activate the charger. You'll be charged the current KWh price (same as for the house).

Important: Disconnect the cable from the car first, then the charger.

In the event the cable is stuck in the charger, please follow the procedure below:

1. Disconnect cable from vehicle and push the cable firmly into the charger so the locking mechanism is not squeezed. 
2. Push the touch button on the charger (above light strip) for approximately 2 seconds and it should unlock. 
3. Remove the cable. 

Sometimes it's necessary to the repeat the procedure.

The surrounding area

There are several playgrounds, football fields, bocce ball courts, a shelter, and public grills in the area. Please see the map.

Stauning Havn is a small, charming marina situated approx. 10 kms/6 miles from the house. There is also a restaurant and a small beach.

Groceries

Min Købmand i Stauning

in Stauning has a fine selection at reasonable prices. We recommend that you support the local community and shop locally. They also have a bakery selection, and you can even preorder breakfast rolls. 

Gaardbageren (Nørbæk 17, 6950 Ringkøbing) is a small bakery that sells sourdough bread on weekends. Opening hours and info can be found on their Facebook page or call +45 24821118.
At Stauning Whisky, you can buy locally produced and critically acclaimed whisky. They also offer guided tours of the distillery.

Snakes

Please be aware of vipers in the area. They are active from early summer until late fall.

Vipers are the only venomous snakes found in Denmark. They use their venom to immobilize prey such as lizards, amphibians, nestlings and small mammals. Vipers are notoriously shy and will avoid human contact whenever possible. You must be very close to the snake to be bitten, normally within 25 cm/10 inches.

Although a vipers’s venom poses little danger to a healthy adult human, the bite can be very painful. Viper bites are normally not serious but can be in some cases (e.g., for small children, pregnant people, and elderly people)! It is advisable to remain calm and not to panic. The venom is released through the bloodstream and movement such as panicking could increase its spread throughout the body. Medical attention is recommended.

First aid:

Consider the following when bitten or helping someone else:

1) Check that breathing is normal and not restricted.

2) Loosen tight clothing around the bite area.

3) Remove jewelry and watches if swelling becomes a problem.

4) Seek medical attention.

Most cases can be treated locally by a medical professional if the injured is breathing fine with only minor symptoms present. Otherwise call 112.
